The traffic light of the Ronconali is a disused maritime traffic light of the Tyrrhenian Sea which is located in the municipal territory of Monte Argentario, in a dominant position with respect to the western coastal stretch of the Argentario promontory.<\/p>\n

The complex was built by the Regia Marina in the second half of the nineteenth century for the monitoring of maritime traffic in the stretch of sea between the Argentario and the island of Giglio, in the same period in which other semaphore infrastructures were activated between the coast of southern Tuscany and the islands of the Tuscan archipelago.<\/p>\n

The semaphore carried out night lighting functions of the corresponding coastal stretch, thanks to the presence of a light at the top of the structure, as well as assisting with navigation thanks to the presence of radio and telegraphic reception and transmission antennas; on the other hand, it is not known whether a meteorological observatory was present at the complex as was the case in other infrastructures with similar functions.<\/p>\n

During the Second World War the complex also became a defensive post for the sighting of aircraft and ships approaching the coast, as well as being equipped with artillery. After the war, the advent of new technologies led the Navy to the decommissioning of the structure as part of the nationwide reorganization of the various coastal garrisons.<\/p>\n

Originally, the traffic light infrastructure was housed in a rectangular-shaped masonry building, consisting of two factory buildings leaning against each other, the one facing the ground, on two levels, with the main facade where the door opened in the middle entrance and the one facing the sea, arranged on three levels, which culminated with a quadrangular top tower that dominated the entire structure. After the decommissioning, the complex was sold to private individuals and between 2010 and 2011 it was renovated to bring it back to its original appearance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
